I realized yesterday that I haven’t been talking much about the wedding here lately, which on the surface might seem strange, since this is a blog about my life and right now, the wedding is my life. But since the planning takes up so much of my free time, I usually like to fill up this space with other fun things. Talking too much about the wedding stresses me out (and we all know how stressed I am right now), because it reminds me of all there is left to do.
But this Sunday officially marks 8 weeks (or two months or 60 days – pick your poison) to go and so I thought you all deserved a little update.
Right now, we’re feverishly working late into the night on our invitations. I’m not talking stuffing envelopes (though we have that to do as well). We have to put our invitations together from scratch basically, which sounds like a lot of work (and it is) but is also kind of fun. It’s nice to sit down and focus our energy on something together and I like the fact that our invitations have all been personally crafted and handled by us.
And we love our invitations. Like, truly, love them. We were fortunate enough to find an invitation designer to work with that let us design every element of the invitation from the ground up, so every feature is something we personally thought about and chose to have. I should mention too that she was very affordable for the quality of her work. When you think of all the formulaic and expensive wedding invitations out there, you realize that this is something very special.
Staying in the invitation vein, the envelopes from our calligrapher came in yesterday and they are to-die-for beautiful amazing. I promise to share pictures with you once they’ve hit the mail and most of our guests have received them!
In other wedding news, we’re trying to nail down some of the day-of details like hair and makeup. I should be having my hair trial later this week and my makeup trial early next week, so that’s good (those two pieces have been particularly tough to nail down for some reason). We’re working with our officiant on getting the ceremony together, with the band on the music selections, and with the planner on everything.
After we finish the invitations, we’ll need to turn our attention to a number of other DIY projects that we’ve planned, like the programs, menus, table numbers, and a few other surprises. We’re both still working on a little project called writing our vows which isn’t as tough as I thought it would be but is still a challenge, of course, to turn feelings into genuine words.
What else, what else…
Oh! Andreas got his tuxedo sorted out, and let me tell you, he is going to look damn handsome. I can’t wait to see him on that day, in that tux. My dress is being altered as we speak. We found a very good seamstress who is tailoring it to fit me just right. Veil, shoes, all sorted.
We’re also both brainstorming what gifts to get our bridesmaids and groomsmen, as well as each other. Any suggestions there? I’m somewhat stumped. And, we’re planning pretty much the best rehearsal festivity ever, which I’m sure I’ll update you on more later.
In the midst of all this, we have two showers, two parties with friends (otherwise known as bachelor and bachelorette parties), and a vacation to take (okay, that part’s easy).
SO, yeah. We’re busy. And somewhere in there I’m trying to work, lose some weight, and hang on to my sanity like a baseball cap in a strong wind. Some days, I’m on top of it. Some days, I’m not. But I have the dearest of friends and family and not to mention the best fiance ever to help me through, so I’ll survive.
I’m attempting to focus on the good, which is that I get to marry the dearest person I know, and that we get to celebrate with all the people we care about most. The coming together from all corners of the world, the bigness of it all, overwhelms me with love.

It really sounds like your wedding is coming together beautifully! I can’t wait to see photos!
For our bridesmaids we gave them sterling silver and blue topaz tennis bracelets (the blue matched the wedding colors) and the fellas got Best Buy gift cards.
You’ll never guess what I did last night. We’re in the middle of putting the stamps on the envelopes, but we have to pull out some of the stuff that’s inside the invitations to put the second stamp on the small RSVP envelope, ya know? And I put that on the wrong inner envelope on like 15 of the invites last night, and didn’t realize it until I had already sealed them all up. PANIC ATTACK. Naturally, I freaked, and B remained calm, used some steam to open them back up, and solve the problem. Then he called me an asshole for going all Hulk on him. Two of the outer envelopes have to be re-done, but that’s hella better than 15.
I can’t wait to see pics! And oh the fun and stress I have to look forward to. Part of me can’t wait!
