The spirit.

While we were home at Thanksgiving, my parents loaded us up with lots of stuff to drive back up to Boston, including this – the fake Christmas tree we’ve had since I was kid (they’ve been getting a real tree for the past few years).

Having no ornaments, I strung it up with white lights and a 5-foot strand of gold beads I got at CVS for $1.99. I did invest in a beautiful cream-colored tree quilted tree skirt with gold embroidery. It was $24.99 from TJ Maxx. Sometimes, a gal’s got to splurge.

And I must admit that even without the delicious pine-y smell that real Christmas trees bring, I’m loving having a tree up. Something about it helps the whole place feel home-y. And home-y is exactly how I want to feel right now.

Has the holiday spirit hit your house yet?

  1. Most definitely. Years ago when we were still little my mom started buying ornaments specifically for us so when we had a place with our own tree we’d have ornaments. I always loved looking in my Christmas stocking to see which new ornament I got. It’s even better now when I pull them out. It’s a little piece of childhood on my tree.
