So A is finally finally FINALLY back from his 11 day business trip to Italy and is currently snoozing peacefully beside me on the couch (jetlag can be a merciless force when she wants to be). Our first full day back together was spent sleeping in, eating banana cupcakes for breakfast, antique shopping, and having a quiet summer’s evening cookout (beef kebabs and lentils, so good).

Now allow me to rewind for a moment. Specifically the part about the 11 day business trip. To Italy. I didn’t let on much around here but those who know me knew: those 11 days were torturous for me. My mom was so worried about me she was actually paying me to find ways to occupy my time. And by that I mean she helped out with the bus ticket to New York.

I mean I was fine. But I just prefer to have him around. To talk with and cook for and just be with. Let’s face it, he’s not only my husband and my best friend, he’s my main human interaction these days. Don’t get me wrong, Milo’s a great listener, and we had many a long chat over those 11 long days, but eventually you come to miss the nods and the “mhmm”s and the “you’re right, honey”s. Even a grunt would suffice.

I was lonely, in a word, even though I tried to keep a schedule and make plans and run errands. And I would have blogged about it but I had this totally rational, not at ALL paranoid fear that someone crazy person would read that I was home alone and come and kill me in the night. I mean, it does happen… maybe. It could.

And when his trip got pushed back an extra day I won’t say I didn’t have a minor breakdown or five but he’s back now and all is right in the world. We bought today what I considered the last big thing we needed for the office: a chandelier. So finally, very soon, you will see the long awaited unveiling of our office, but for now I leave you with a song. Discovered via bloggie favorite Girls Gone Child, this is my new favorite for when I need grounding and a serious dose of gratefulness.

Grateful that he has a job he likes that gives him opportunities to go to beautiful places like Italy. Grateful that I have a roof over my head and doors that lock for when he’s away. Grateful that there are planes that fly safely and swiftly and bring him back to me.

So, it’s Sunday and it’s been a crazy weekend and I’m struggling to get something up today.

We got the bed (finally. Though when we got home with it we found the frame they gave us to be BROKEN and had to go back to Jordan’s YET AGAIN. We’re now on a first name basis with all the guys in the Jordan’s warehouse, who are decidedly far more cool than the money-hungry, commission-crazed employee we were working with the the Sleep Lab who’s eyes lit up like the Chrysler Building when we said, “for all this extra money for the split box spring and the split box spring frame, we could have gotten the king.” And no, we didn’t get the king.).

We did get the Volvo, which checked out fine at the inspection and ended up being an even greater deal than we imagined. Thank you Craigslist. Can I get an Amen? Amen.

Charming aside: I might regret admitting this so publicly but, I’m a Volvo person. I am. No, eff that, I’m a proud Volvo person. VOLVO LOVERS UNITE, WHAT!

…. you still there?

We got the rugs too, which are awesome. One is an 8×12 ft. white shag rug from West Elm that was bought less than a year ago for $600 and was gently used in a non-smoking, non-pet home. We got it for $75. Thank you Craigslist! Can I find a bargain or can I find a bargain! Amen.

Anyways, I really just wanted to share this song I’m really into these days which I discovered thanks to my Regina Spektor station on Pandora. It’s totally got me dancing around the house as I do my Sunday chores. (Ugh, sony music disabled embedding! Screw you, sony. I am purposefully not capitalizing your name.) Just click and listen, okay? Though fair warning, the video is kind of creepy in an almost charming but really just creepy sort of way. And Regina does not appear at all, which is a big downfall, in my opinion.

Word.

I’ve been listening to the new album, Far, by Regina Spektor non-stop for the past week. In fact, if my August 2009 had theme music, it would be the entire Far album.

You know you’ve found a gem when you can really listen to the whole album backwards and forwards and enjoy it all. I keep switching what my favorite song on the album is.

First is was Laughing With (cause that’s the first one I heard).

Then Machine (Classic Regina Spektor. This song epitomizes why I love her.).

Then Folding Chair (favorite line: “I’ve got a perfect body/ But sometimes I forget/ I’ve got a perfect body/ ‘Cause my eyelashes catch my sweat/ Yes they do/ They do-ooo.”).

Then Riot Gear (“Take of my tuna dress/ Put on my collard greens.”).

Then Dance Anthem of the 80′s (I have a silly dance to this that I’m thinking of making a YouTube video of).

Then The Calculation, Eet, and Blue Lips, all piled on top of each other, vying for first place and I said, “I can’t choose, guys! I can’t.”

And the rest are really good too. Especially One More Time with Feeling, Time is All Around, and The Sword & The Pen.

If you like good music, I say get this album.

In the meantime, I leave you with the music video for Eet. (I have no idea what that word is supposed to mean but this song is just too beautiful.)

And in case you’re all like, Regina who? This was the song that really launched her into the mainstream and it’s one of my fav music videos ever.
